My name is Ron Dillon, Jr. My wife, Melanie and I are lifelong residents of Anne Arundel County. I am a Certified Public Accountant and Controller for Dillon's Bus Service. Melanie is an Anne Arundel County school teacher.

I was fortunate to grow up in a family business environment and quickly learned the importance of hard work and persistence. My family operates Dillon's Bus Service. The Dillon family has a long tradition of serving the transportation needs of the community. It all began in 1918 when Edmund and Zenia Dillon (my great grandparents) started the first school bus route in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. This grew from a one bus operation into a fleet. The fleet was passed down to Edmund's son Perry in 1955. Perry and his wife Eleanor operated the school bus business until 1971 when their sons Perry, Ronnie, Keith and Brian began to run the company. In the mid 70's, Ronnie, Keith and Brian decided to pursue the opportunities in the motorcoach industry while older brother Perry continued the school bus operation. Today, I am happy to be a part of the fourth generation involved in the business.

I was educated in the Anne Arundel County public school system and graduated from Glen Burnie High School. After high school I attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) where I graduated with Honors. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics with a Certificate in Managerial Sciences. While attending high school and college, I worked as a mechanic at the bus company.

After I graduated from college I was hired by one of the "Big Five" accounting firms as a tax accountant. I sat for the CPA exam in May of 1998 and passed on my first attempt. I left the accounting firm in October of 1998 and returned to the family business as the Controller.

Today, my responsibilities include overseeing the financial function of the company as well as the general management of the company. Since my return in 1998, our fleet has increased from 40 to 75 motorcoachesand our revenue has more than doubled.

I am President of the Old Mill High School Business Advisory Board, a member of the Glen Burnie High School Business Advisory Board and a member of the Glen Burnie Rotary Club. Additionally, I am treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Motorcoach Association, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.

I believe my financial and management background will be a tremendous asset to this county. As you are aware, the county executive creates the budget and the Council approves it. It is extremely important to have members of the council with strong financial expertise to ensure the proper checks and balances of the system. I will bring honest, intelligent and responsive leadership to the County Council.
